UB Couplings

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope you are celebrating all your wonderful relationships. Meanwhile, I spent my Saturday evening compiling this picture of people I made-up in the various relationships of my invention. Imaginary relationships are kinda my thing.

I try my hand at many kinds of relationships in UB, a story focused on friendship. In UB, romance is generally the extension of friendship (or friendship+mutual attraction). In addition to marriages, casual dating, unrequited/puppy love, etc., there's some fwb situations, and lots of cherished bromances and platonic bonds.

 
~Ricky and Brigit were my first couple. They are almost background characters, but in the course of the story, they get engaged, married, and have a child. They are playful and fun and sort of a litmus test for a healthy relationship.

~Seiko and Eric's relationship was modeled after my own unrequited "crush" history, ultimately culminating the way I was finally able to cure myself -- through a frank albeit awkward discussion and a resumed (improved) friendship. I designed Eric as the "white knight" character, an ideal. (His first appearance was at a costume party wearing literal shining armor.) 

~Yuki and Brad are lifelong friends who bonded before they had hormones and never figured out how to evolve to another type of relationship -- or if they wanted to. By the time Brad figured out he wanted to try, Yuki had already developed her crushing fear of commitment, so the friendship is in a limbo of sorts.

~Seiko and Tristan have a steadily grown love sprung from a friendship. It is a little awkward and slow because of Tristan's low confidence and Seiko's nonexistent experience. It is like a "first love" but between adults, it is more candid and logical than among the hormone-adled teenagers sometimes thus affected. 
 
~Toyo and Celes are friends with benefits. As secondary characters, it hasn't gotten into more detail than that. It is suggested that Celes enjoys the physical side of relationships and has a history of casual partners. 

~Kaida's relationships are complicated. She is clearly still in love with her ex-husband, whom she thinks about constantly but fights with whenever they encounter each other. Her first sexual partner was her boss Raidon, 20 years her senior. He is still very possessive.
 
~There are so many other little friend/romance/partnerships I explore in my writing, sibling bonds, near-illogical bromances, crushes, unrequited loves, loveless lusts, human-pet bonds, etc.
