Description
Here are some Used Books moments I’m proud of each month.
~~~
January: This dark scene, which took a lot of experimenting with filters and opacity, a strong reserve, and brought me to the realization that my initials match those of the psycho (and I initialed his work).
February: The official introduction of a genderless character-actor named Quinn (who was playing the role of Allison during the arc).
March: This uncomfortable bit of dialogue. It was very hard for me to write, both academically and psychologically. Caroline has been a favorite character, and it broke my heart to break her spirit.
April: Mike’s studio apartment. This man of modest means has the technology of a couple decades ago. The details were fun, and on the page, it’s compared with the lifestyle of his ex-girlfriend (current friend), who is modern and hip.
May: A candid conversation between Raidon and his butler/driver. It hints at a side of the man as yet unseen (the same side that causes Meredith to recoil).
June: Brad getting dressed for work. It’s not complex, but a little touch I did have to have a reference for, and it’s something I think about at my own job sometimes. (I’m not law enforcement, but I work around LE a lot and used to share housing with LE. The vest always struck a nerve with me on what their job entails.)
July: Lee’s house. So bright and cheery. It was important to get right as part of Lee’s lifestyle and character. It required a bit of research, references, and trial-and-error color palettes.
Aug: Mostly the lighting here, as Yuki wakes up in Brad’s bed after a particularly emotional evening.
Sept: The Verona kids in a family portrait. I enjoy drawing younger versions of characters, and it was fun playing with colors. Plus, I’m also from a five-member family with two girls and a little boy, so it has nostalgia.
Oct: The introduction of “Captain Jack” and his playful animosity toward Raidon. I had a lot of fun with his character design.
Nov: This storage room in the castle and a glimpse into the mundane end of Conrad’s operations. I think it helps flesh out the characters involved.
Dec: Tristan’s clumsy attempts at diffusing a situation. Tristan dialogue is fun. I look forward to much Tristan in 2017.
