Wanna help a girl out with some overwhelming vet bills? I'm making custom rodent necklaces. Follow the link!  http://www.curiousv.com/crafts/index.html Rats are my thing, but I can make them into mice or guinea pigs or hamsters. If you want to help but don't really want a charm, I also set up a GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/gortys-and-sasha039s-vet-fund

Summer 2018

0 min read
Just a quick life update. I am filled to the brim with conflicting emotions as I am not returning to Fort Monroe this summer. I fell in love with Hampton and Newport News and the camaraderie of my coworkers. I want to cry. But I couldn't turn down a position in the mountains where I can dust off the Biology part of my brain. I was born in WV, and the mountains call me. I have long dreamed of getting back to them and away from the coast. My heart doesn't live at the beach. I was offered a seasonal position on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 85.6. I accepted and am now involved in a stress-filled and frustrating search for housing. As stres

Appearances

This week's Drunk Duck "Quackcast" was on the topic of beauty. It got me to think of how I imagine and describe my characters' appearances. (Portraying them visually is another story, since my artistic skill is not on par with my imagination.) I've seen other writers/creators describe original characters as "beautiful" or "attractive," which are hollow and subjective adjectives, imo. I end up picturing them as cookie-cutter highly photoshopped magazine models. (I have seen both male and female protagonists described in various glamorous terms. For men, it's usually rugged, muscular, etc.) My best guess is it comes down to wish-fulfillment, pa

Okay!  How was the move?  Which critters did the move with you?  How are things at the park?  Are you at the light house or a different location?
Things are doing fine.

My RV had three things broken when I set up, a pipe, the toilet, and the LP regulator. It cost nearly $600 and several days of discomfort, phone calls, etc. to fix. I pretty much have no money until I get a paycheck.

I brought my two youngest male rats, Tulio and Miguel, with me. My parents plan to bring my cat Lily to me in a week or so. (She would have hated all the repair guys in and out.)

Right now, I'm working on a few sign/interpretive exhibit projects. I will be stationed at the new visitor center in Beaufort once it opens at the end of April. It's on the busiest street in a fairly bustling tourist town 30 minutes drive away. So, it will be a much different kind of job. -- Usually given to a higher grade employee. I'm still paid the GS 04 wage, but I look forward to having more duties and responsibilities. Plus, it will be a 40 hour work week with some Sunday pay, so I'm happy for that.
Must feel a bit like an adventure.

Sounds like they are evaluating you for more.
